The tour starts early in the morning by picking you up form your hotel or AIRBnB apartment. After driving along the plains of Pieria and Thessaly, arrival in the city of Kalambaka which lies on the foothills of the rock formation. Here is the starting point of the visit to two monasteries out of the 6 that still remain inhabited.
Perched high atop of the of granite and sandstone cliffs, the Orthodox monasteries of Meteora were built beginning in the 14th century highly decorated with frescoes and icons dated back to the Byzantine artwork. Ascend the cliffs via a modern road, and visit two to of the surviving monasteries. Learn about the lives of the monks who sought peace and retreat here, and soak up spectacular views of the surrounding rocks and valley.
As soon as we finish the visit descent back to the town of Kalambaka where you will have free time for lunch or coffee (own expenses). As soon as you finish lunch you will return back to the city of Thessaloniki. The tour finishes by dropping you off back at your Thessaloniki hotel.
